Life Magazine Nikon S

Over the years Nikon has made special cameras for journalists and scientists. Among the them are the Nikon FEA model, a standard FE with an action finder made for National Geographic, and the NASA cameras made for the Apollo mission.

One of the rarest, and mort desirable from a historical perspective, is the small production black Nikon "S", made for Time/Life with a large wind knob. The design allowed use with gloves in the bitter cold of Korea. Production figures are unavailable, but estimates are about 50 bodies.

An even more elusive special group of large control cameras were made for NASA.

This group of cameras has been covered extensively in the "Nikon Journal".

Just to set the record staight, those 73/74 Nikon Fs with plastic advance lever tips are NOT Appllo cameras, no matter how many times someone on eBay says so!
