Nikon F5 50th Anniversary Camera

Mikio Itoh of the Nikon Corporation PR Department sent the Society the following information on the Nikon F5 50th anniversary model.

  • This camera was sold from Jun.1.1998 in Japan.
  • About 2,000 Pieces were sold out.
  • Differences from standard F5
    • Old Nikon logo (from Nikon 1), was engraved on front face.
    • Old Nippon Kogaku trademark was engraved on back face.
    • Color, upper part of body - dark silver, grip - dark gray

A note by the webmaster:
This camera is packed in a box made in the spirit of the early Nikon blue flocked boxes. Unlike the rather ugly engraved wood boxes many other Nikon anniversary models have been packed in, this box is beautiful! Also included is a special strap, and white outer box marked 50th anniversary. There have been rumors that more than 2000 pieces will be available (perhaps another 1000), but I have on very good authority that no more will be produced above 3000. 300 pieces have been reserved for the US market.

Update 11/4/98
I have confirmed from several reliable sources, including an email to NHS member Steven Gandy, from Nikon Japan, that a total of 3000 pieces have now been produced worldwide. At this time it appears, according to the email I have received, that the serial numbers are not in sequence!
