Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson") has launched the Epson
Rangefinder Digital Camera R-D1, the world's first rangefinder
digital camera, in partnership with Cosina Corporation.
(3/2004) Nikon
Photo Contest International Winners Exhibition will be held from
Mar.12th to Mar.28th. in Tokyo.
(3/9/04) Eastman
Kodak Co. said... it is suing Sony Corp....
for infringing on 10 of Kodak's patents related to digital cameras and
imaging. In a suit filed in federal court in New York, Rochester, New
York-based Kodak alleged that Sony's products use technology invented
by Kodak, including an "electronic camera utilizing image
compression and digital storage." Is this Kodak's future,
litigation as a business model?
(3/9/04) PayPal,
is paying New York $150,000 in penalties after misrepresenting to consumers
its policy on repayment when merchandise doesn't arrive, the state attorney
general said Monday. PayPal... had specifically stated that it provided
the same rights and protections of a traditional credit card transaction,
said Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. But consumers were often denied those
rights, he said. The
payment service also faces inquiries from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission
and several states,

From Ken Morton & Petra Kellers: We have obtained 50 copies of the NEW
Nikon Compendium II and believe that we are probably the only
ones in the U.S. with copies. As members, we will offer them to the Nikon
Society members for $52.00, including media mail shipping, for members
only. We are currently charging $59.95 plus shipping on our website at www.CameraBooks.com.
(Please mention you saw it on the NHS site)
(12/3) Nikon has
announced development of the D70 digital SLR camera, read the press
release. Nikon is reporting "Superb Image Quality at an Attractive
Price." We continue to get reports of demand exceeding supply on
the Nikon Digital lenses, the 12-24mm and the 10.5mm Fisheye. Deliveries
on the wide angle VR lens also appears tight, calls to several NYC dealers
revealed none in stock except gray market versions.
(12/2) Apple has
opened a new store on the Ginza
in Tokyo which rivals the Apple Store in SOHO. This brings Photoshop
on the Apple 64 bit Dual G5 to
Japan in a major showcase. The response was incredible, with fans waiting
for hours, in amazingly
long lines, to get in. Apple Japan also announced that it will have
a second store in the Osaka area in 2004
(Updated 11/15) Stephen
Gandy sent us a link this morning that reports
Nikon intends to cease production of film cameras. Another article
from the same source contradicts the first one completely. Also
on Nikon's site another denial in English and Japanese.
Sloppy journalism, or inside information that Nikon just doesn't want
released just now? It's hard to imagine Nikon giving up sales of 5 million
units, just when the company has reported increased profits.
(September
30) The first full color Nikon Journal was published for
the 20th Aniversary of the NHS!
Articles
include Tom Abrahamsson's amazing new 50 1.1 lens shade,
engraved with the NHS logo, and an article on 60969,
detailing the story of its acquisition.

The
new Voigtlander 50/1.5 and 85/3.5 in NRF mount just arrived. They look
great. will have pics up by the weekend. $550 for the 50, $425 for the
85 -- the 1st APO lens in NRF. I think construction quality seems very
high. The 28/3.5 and 50/2.5 will be next, followed by the 12 and 15 in
Nikon F mount which can be used on NRF with an adapter, late this year
will likely be the 35/1.7 and 28/1.9. (Stephen Gandy)
(From
NHS member Uli Koch) My book was printed in mid April 2003 and will be
presented at the WestLicht auction on the 23/24 May 2003. In other words
it will be finished in two weeks!!! (What a long work for me). I will
update my website (www.nikon-f.de)
within the next 2 - 4 days for the new information.
